Onsite Chemist
Primary Purpose
Responsible for proving hands-on continuous improvement of waste management services. Includes sorting and preparing hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste for shipment from the customer's site. Will ensure compatibility and safety processes at all times for each job and lab pack services provided to customer.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Conduct daily site inspections as needed.
- Conduct weekly RCRA inspections.
- Work with customers and vendors to implement improved waste management procedures.
- Manage and puncture waste aerosol.
- Manage recycling programs.
- Manage the 90-date accumulate building.
- Schedule all waste shipments including recycling materials.
- Manage all document tracking including reports to Environmental Department.
- Manage supplier subcontractors working on behalf of Heritage.
- Meet with supplier partners to discuss disposal opportunities, negotiate pricing and review current approvals.
- Prepare monthly waste activity reports for clients as requested.
- Collects hazardous and non-hazardous materials from various onsite locations and transports via push cart to waste collection areas.
- Maintain a log of waste stored in the waste area.
- Inspect satellite hazardous waste accumulation areas within the facility, including universal waste storage locations, in accordance with RCRA regulations
- Inspect biohazard waste accumulation areas including outgoing trailers.
- Develop good client relations by effectively communicating with customers.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or its equivalent required.

Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Environmental or other related area of science is preferred.
Experience:
-
Minimum 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: chemist, environmental, waste management, sustainability, consultative solutions and lab packing preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a safety sensitive role and with a constant state of alertness and functioning in a safe manner.
- Introductory knowledge of high hazard materials management/assessment and cylinder handling
- Ability to provide effective consultative solutions to clients.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to manage and deliver multiple projects in a deadline driven environment.
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
- Ability to foster lasting relationships with clients and supplier partners. Must be comfortable building relationships in-person
- Ability to recognize problems/issues, provide and execute solutions with limited direction
- Strong MS Office skills in Outlook, Excel, Word
- Solid knowledge and understanding of chemistry, environmental and industry-related regulations at the federal, state and/or local levels.
