Recyclables Operations Manager

Primary Purpose

The purpose of the position is to assist in supervising, transportation and processing of nonhazardous waste and recyclable materials for Heritage consumer products and recycling customers. This position oversees and performs various tasks, including driving, operating mobile & processing equipment & directing line operations and supporting documentation of activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Schedules, plans and directs employees in their assigned tasks ensuring production goals are met in an efficient manner.
• Ensures all employees are working in a safe manner with any prescribed safety equipment required by regulations, company policies and procedures.
• Develops, maintains, and initiates reports on all activities for management review or required by regulations, company policies and procedures.
• Trains new employees in company and department procedures and monitors adherence
• Serves as a resource and trainer to less experienced personnel. Ensures all employees are working in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures. Conducts daily tool box meetings and monthly Safety Meetings.
• Provides oversight and direction to others performing transportation, sorting, processing and housekeeping duties, ensuring all employees are adhering to Company policies and procedures. May run shifts on the weekends or any other time required.
• Participates in hiring, performance evaluation, disciplining, and promotion and termination decisions.
• Monitors equipment assigned to area and notifies maintenance of issues.
• Continuously monitor recycle and disposal programs for efficiency improvement.
• Operate a fork truck with attachments along with any other vehicles and machines. Utilize scale equipment to document all receiving, shipping & inventory management. Able to operate all processing equipment. Perform equipment and area inspections.
• Ensure quality & production goals are met in an efficient manner by managing the processing of inbound, stored and outbound materials.
• Verify recyclable products and processed materials meet established specifications prior to shipping.
• Interfaces with other areas and departments to ensure a smooth flow of product through the recycling facility.
• Must open and close facility to ensure proper start-up and end of day securement/shut down.

Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent required.

Experience: 2+ years operations management or supervisory experience required. 4-6 years of related recycling or departmental supervision experience preferred. Knowledge and working experience with stationary equipment such as shredders, extruders, compactors, balers, forklifts, trucks, air compressors and general bulk liquid/solid material vessels. Practical application of computer generated data and production reports.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Must have excellent communication skills. Good knowledge of various federal, state, and local industry-related regulations. Must have the ability to wear PPE. Must possess a sound understanding of necessary equipment maintenance and general upkeep of a fixed facility. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
