Waste Compliance Manager

Primary Purpose

The Waste Compliance Manager will be first and foremost directly responsible for supporting Operations Teams on all waste related activities and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Additionally, this role shall work closely with management to execute on the strategy for reducing risk and maximizing efficiency within existing customer operations and external opportunities.

Essential Functions:

• Ensures Health & Safety is a core value by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Partners with Operations Teams on all aspects of management of regulated waste materials.
• Maintains working knowledge of applicable current and proposed industry regulations.
• Prepares and presents reports and guidance on proposed/new regulations to Operations Teams.
• Maintains strong knowledge of hazardous waste TSDFs, transporters and associated capabilities
• Identifies and recommends alternative disposal facilities as needed.
• Supports waste characterization, sample analysis and waste profile review/generation.
• Conducts due diligence with legal and supply chain teams for new supplier approval.
• Reviews current waste streams and outlets to ensure compliance and maximum efficiency.
• Takes initiative to understand regulations surrounding compliant FDA and other uniquely regulated waste reuse.
• Collaborates with Innovation Team to identify new disposal facilities, recycling outlets and reuse opportunities.
• Supports Implementation Team on initial waste stream reviews and provides recommendations on alternative practices.

• Supports new business RFP responses related to regulated waste specific items.
• Develops and reviews customer-facing proposals alongside Program Management teams.
• Ensures compliance with corporate SOP's and initiatives.

Travel:

Overnight travel required – Up to 30%

Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent required. Bachelors degree in related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in waste management and recycling industry with strong knowledge of RCRA/TSCA/DOT regulations required. Experience with waste determination/characterization/profiling required. Knowledge of FDA regulations and waste compliance requirements preferred.

Knowledge & Abilities:

Strong relationship building skills with both internal and external stakeholders. Willingness to work with a team as well as independently to achieve business goals. Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative. Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects with driven deadlines. Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze information and make professional recommendations and execute. Experience in delivering presentations with strong verbal and written communication skills necessary. Ability to write and review business proposals. Strong hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
